Week 4

This week after I came in, I heard a lot of talk about a disgruntled client who had been causing a disturbance in the previous days/weeks, and had threatened to picket outside the door on the day I came in. What I ended up learning was that this client had heard some advice from the professionals working his case that he didn't like, and that those handling his case had to drop it, since they had done all they could, and couldn't help him any further. In the past, he had come in demanding service immediately without going through the proper processes, and seemed to be acting irrationally. Apparently he has some mental illnesses and has been off his medication. He's not violent or aggressive, or seems to pose any kind of safety threat, and has just been loud and disruptive. Normally there is an established process to go to the case manager, and a chain of command to follow as outlined in the employee manual, but the right person to go to was not present at the time. The man never showed up while I was there, but as a precaution they closed the blinds and turned the lights off to make it seem like no one was there. While there did seem to be some frustration and worry in the office as to not wanting work to be disrupted, it wasn't pointed towards the client, and they regarded his state with compassion, recognizing that he was ill and needed help, never calling him "crazy" or anything.
