Week 3

This week I continued working on a contact list, and I also had the unique privilege to sit in and take notes on an initial client meeting. This is the first meeting in which the client presents whatever kind of case they have with the case handler, and it is assessed what kind of future actions might be taken. The meeting I attended was the parents and their son, whom were very distraught when their son came home with marks indicating he might have been abused at his school. The parents didn't seem to speak much english, but one of the employees always acts as a Spanish translator. This, and the continued emphasis that Disability rights has on making their services and information as accessible as possible is something that's really stuck with me. In the majority of texts I see them provide, there is almost always a copy of it in Spanish. Disability Rights always seems to me to make sure that their services are accessible to everyone, regardless of class, race, language, religion, etc. I also see this in the pro-bono work they do.
